As I mentioned more than a month ago, I am reading the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton, which starts with Guilty Pleasures. Onto book 2: The Laughing Corpse! I’m reading about 175 pages a week. Each week, I’ll be bringing you two posts: a review of the book and a related kinky post. This is my review of the book post!
Description from Good Reads: Harold Gaynor offers Anita Blake a million dollars to raise a 300-year-old zombie. Knowing it means a human sacrifice will be necessary, Anita turns him down. But when dead bodies start turning up, she realizes that someone else has raised Harold’s zombie–and that the zombie is a killer. Anita pits her power against the zombie and the voodoo priestess who controls it.
In The Laughing Corpse Anita will learn that there are some secrets better left buried-and some people better off dead…
The Laughing Corpse (Chapters 1-17)
For whatever reason, this is the book I remember the most, so I know how it’s going to end (at least roughly, I don’t remember all the details). It’s very good so far. Very fast-paced. I like how it’s mostly not connected to the previous book, but there’s a thread there with Jean-Claude and the events of Guilty Pleasures. We get to know more about Anita and her history and understand a little bit more about what’s going on with Jean-Claude, but there’s still more to come!
Here is the link to my very rough notes about the first half of the book, including notes on characters and plot. It’s mostly for me, but if you had read it in the past and just need a refresher, it would suffice, though it doesn’t read nicely!
