Reading Fun!

Laurell K. Hamilton has long been one of my favorite authors. I couldn’t tell you when I started reading the Anita Blake series, but it’s probably been at least two decades. Every time a new book comes out, I want to read it, but then I realize that I have a terrible memory, and I don’t remember what happened in the previous 10, 15, 20 books. So I start back at the beginning. And don’t get me wrong, the books are super compelling. Once I start reading, I can’t put them down. At one point, I only allowed myself to read/listen to them while I was working out to entice myself to do more exercise. But inevitably, life happens, and I have to read a book for school or book club, or something catches my eye, and I get distracted. Often, I find that I can’t keep reading them because I get too absorbed and neglect things I need to be getting done.

I was explaining this problem to a friend of mine a few months back, and they said, “You need to keep a cheat sheet of what happened in the books so you don’t have to start over every time you get distracted.” (That is definitely not an accurate quote because I didn’t write it down at the time, and, as mentioned, my memory is poor, but I don’t think they’ll mind me sightly misquoting them.)

So then I realized that if I was going to re-read the whole series and take notes on the books so that I didn’t have to re-read again if I got distracted, why not share that with the world? And by the world, I mean my blog readers. Hey, Anita Blake is very much kinky. So here we go! In one month, I’m going to start posting multiple times per week. Consistently! My goal is to read about half a book per week, so about 175 pages/week or 25 pages per day. (Some of the longer books, I’ll break into smaller chunks.)

Each week, there will be two posts. The first will be a non-spoilery review and a link to the notes I took as I read the book for memory-purposes. I’ll be honest. The link to the notes will be mostly for me, so it’s going to be rough. Don’t expect anything polished here! The second post will be a related kinky story, info share, or similar that relates to the book.

I’m going to do this either way, but I’d love to have some company! If you want to get ahead, feel free to start reading now, or you can time yourself to my blogs to start September 1st! Happy reading!

And in the meantime, what are you reading?

  1. There are a few authors whose works I never become tired of reading over and each time I read their books I find something “new.” lol
