“I don’t think I want to know,” he said tentatively.

“I’m sorry,” she said, and she lowered her eyes to her feet. She could feel Sevy watching her intently. It made the hair on the back of her neck stand up.

“No, Aralyn, I’m sorry.”

“For what?” she asked looking up at him.

“I don’t need to know about your past, but if you feel like you need to tell me, then you can tell me.

“Are you sure?” she asked.

“I’m sure,” he said. “Lay it on me.”

“Dominico is into BDSM.”

Sevy raised an eyebrow. “I have never heard about that.”

“You don’t follow the gossip columns, though.”

“No, but still, it’s something I would have expected to hear, owning a dungeon!”

“True,” she said, “but he did an excellent job of keeping it quiet.”

“Apparently.”

“I think it was because he wasn’t sexually active until he was already famous. He is very selective about who he sleeps with.”

Sevy looked at her appraisingly. “I can tell why he would pick you.” He smiled at her.

“Stop,” she teased. “Dom picked me because he knew I would keep my mouth shut.”

“So then why are you telling me?”

“Because it doesn’t matter now.”

“Why not?”

“The tabloids know. There’s a picture of us together.”

“Together how?” Sevy asked a note of earnest curiosity in his voice.

“Well I haven’t actually seen the picture, I just saw the person with the camera. But,” she took a deep breath. This was going to be difficult to say. “I was bound at the wrists and ankles, and he was standing over me, beating me with a flogger.” She looked at the floor, right between Sevy’s bare feet. Why had she chosen to share this with him now? She should have just kept her mouth shut.

“He… You… Flogger.” Sevy was speechless.

“I can’t believe it isn’t all over the news yet. As soon as I saw the reporter, I left.” Sevy didn’t respond, and now that she had started to talk, she felt like she couldn’t help tell the whole story. “We had been seeing each other for a long time, and it was totally quiet. His wife had no idea. His kids had no idea. We were hiding it so well. I was his freedom. He could be himself with me. There’s something powerful in that, I think. And things were going so well, but he started wanting more of my time, wanting me to do more and more things with him. I didn’t mind. It was great. I loved being tied up and beaten and teased and…” she let her voice trail off and changed tack. “But there were problems with him sneaking out to see me. Problems with the hotel we always went to. He would slip me cash, and I would get the hotel room, and we’d smuggle him in so no one saw him. But one time someone did see him, and it was a big thing, so we changed hotels. But there are only so many hotels in a small town in Iowa, and then I think someone who worked there must have tipped off a local reporter because the next time we were together, there was a reporter there. He must have jimmied the lock or something because there I am being tied up and flogged and the next thing I know, the door is open, and there’s a reporter with a camera. Dominico slammed the door in his face and locked it behind him, but I’m sure the picture is out there. I don’t even remember how we got out of the hotel without being seen. It’s all a blur. I remember climbing out of a window and… I just don’t know. The next day I was gone.”

She went and knelt in front of him. “I’m sorry I kept it from you for so long.”

He looked at her appraisingly.
