Hey, did you all know S was a letter? Apparently, I didn’t, since I didn’t put it in my outline, my drafts, or my preview last night. Fortunately A.L. Ryan gave me a fun idea when we got lunch this afternoon.
S is for Silent
I think my favorite compliment card I ever got is this one: 🥺 👉👈 🏆 💗
Which I suppose needs some explanation. One morning, I was working the front of our sushi restaurant. It’s one of those living platter places where they serve the sushi off of a person because how else would you eat sushi at a BDSM resort? This guy in a full gimp suit came over. Leather head to toe, hood zipped shut, the whole deal. I looked around. It’s not a rule, but we generally prefer that guests don’t leave subs unattended if they’re restrained. He held up a tablet in his mitten-gloved hands with a message on it. “Master sent me to get a table.”
It was slow. I decided to go for it.
“And how many in your party…” I usually call guests sir or ma’am. Standard hospitality stuff. But it seemed kind of weird to call a guy in a gimp suit that wasn’t even allowed to talk, Sir. “sub?” I went with, my voice rising at the end.
He nodded, evidently accepting that. He fiddled with the tablet for a second (hard to work a touch screen in mittens) and then held it back up. A big 2 was on the screen.
“Alright, and when would you like to make the reservation for?”
He held the tablet up again, a 🌙 symbol coming up on it.
“Tonight?” I guessed.
“What time would you like?”
He tapped a few times, “7:30” on the screen.
“Alright, we have a table then. Any allergies in your party?” I stopped for a second. He was into it; I might as well play along. “Sorry, it’s not your party, is it? Your Master’s party.”
“So, does anyone in your Master’s party have an allergy?”
He shook his head.
“Alright, and would your Master prefer a male or female platter?”
Back to the tablet: ♀
“Very good. Would you like to preorder an appetizer or anything for your Master?”
He paused, cocking his head a little. The answer was obviously yes, but he was trying to figure out how to communicate it with the tablet. Eventually, he held it up with: 🍷
“I see. Red or white?”
He showed me the screen, the whole thing red.
“And dry or sweet?”
“Excellent. I’ll let our sommelier handle it.”
Numbers were easy at least, 535.
“Alright. Is there anything else I can do for you?”
He shook his head.
“Well, then I hope you and your Master have a lovely time. We’ll see you later tonight.”
He gave a sort of half-bow and headed back towards the elevator to go back to his room.
The rest of the shift was fairly uneventful. I had a smile on my face for most of it. The next morning, there was one of the envelopes we use for the compliment cards waiting for me at the start of my shift. I took it out and found two cards. One from the sub, with: 🥺 👉👈 🏆 💗.
And one from his Dom, which said, “Thank you for helping my sub out yesterday. He was super nervous about going out in his suit alone, but he wants to do as much to be publicly subby as he can while we’re here. I especially appreciated you helping him order the wine. Compliments to the sommelier too, he chose well.”
Finally, there was a picture of the two of them together in the restaurant. The sub had his zipper open to eat, and they were both grinning ear to ear. I love this job sometimes.

This gave me a chuckle – well done to the sub for managing that!
