March 6th question: Have you “played” with AI to write those nasty synopses, or do you refuse to go that route? How do you feel about AI’s impact on creative writing?

Jayden: I haven’t used AI to write synopses, though it has a sort of appeal to it. I’m not good at writing synopses, but I also don’t have a reason to anyway right now. I don’t think I would use it anyway. I think it’s crappy in general that we have made AI do fun things instead of boring things to free us up to do more fun things. But there are a lot of things wrong with our society.

Richard: I like writing synopses. I channel my (weirdly specific, but effective) inner early 90s shareware video game ad copy voice. At this point (didn’t we have this question like 3 months ago?) AI still isn’t good enough at writing to do anything of much value. On the other hand, I’m seeing some people do cool stuff with AI voice services like Elvenlabs to voice their writing. It’s not great, but it’s good enough for stuff like video game mods.

And apparently, we missed February, even though we answered it in our shared doc. Whoops! I back dated it, and it’s here if you want to read it!

  1. Hi, Jayden and Richard. I’m visiting from the IWSG. I can see a lot of useful applications in the world, but writing creatively is not one of them.
