The Insecure Writer's Support Group

We’re back for an 8th month of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group! It’s hard to believe it’s been 2/3 of a year!

If you’d like to chime in and let us know your answers to the questions or drop a link to your post if you’re participating, please do so in the comments! And check out the IWSG website for more answers!

November 3rd: What’s harder to do, coming up with your book title or writing the blurb?

Jayden: The title. Definitely. You have to make sure it’s not another popular book’s title. You have to find something that encompasses the storyline. And then you have to make sure that it’s not going to be accidentally offensive. The first novel I published was titled Slave. That was it. That was the title. And it made sense as a BDSM Master/slave relationship novel, in which the submissive literally doesn’t have a name. But… looking back at it, I took it off the market because 1) the title has a connotation I wasn’t thinking of at the time and 2) I’ve developed a lot as a writer since I wrote it years ago and I need to make some edits. That’s going to be a 2022 project, for sure.

Anyway… the title is much harder to come up with. The blurb is a lot easier. Plus, I think I’ve read some tips on how to write a good blurb. You can do that.

Richard: Titles are awful. Hard to come up with, and not very fulfilling anyway. Blurbs are fun, and when I write a good one it makes me want to read my story, which is a nice feeling.

Do you have any tips on how to pick a good title or write a blurb? Drop them in the comments!
