Jayden: Pecan pie bread pudding. Because pecan pie and bread pudding are two of my favorite things.

Richard: Teaberry ice cream with rainbow jimmies because it tastes like Pepto.

2. What is your favorite nickname to be called?

Richard: NaNoDad

(These are the nicknames our local writing group have given us.)

3. What is your favorite nickname for your favorite person?

Jayden: Bipwiget (which is what I call Richard)

Richard: Pineapple (which is what I call Jayden)

4. Who makes you laugh the most?

Jayden: Richard

Richard: Sam, one of my writing friends

5. What is something common from your childhood that will seem strange to millennials?

Jayden & Richard: We’re in our 30s and we are millennials.

Bonus: What is your idea of heaven?

Jayden: Have you watched The Good Place? That. (If you haven’t, YOU SHOULD. Also, there’s a podcast. It’s amazing.)

Richard: Heaven is a Place on Earth Jokes aside, I always thought Heaven would be different for each person, if it was real. What I like might be torture for someone else, and everyone wanting/liking the exact same thing is just a stock dystopian novel plot.

Some fun news!

We went on a podcast! We decided that we wanted to get an outside perspective on the start of our relationship, so we called in to The Viall Files and got to talk to Nick! It was a fun experience to be on a podcast and to get some relationship advice, and we thought we would share it with you. Also, if you need relationship advice, Nick’s great. As it turns out, Richard said basically all the same things that Nick did, but it was still good to get an outside perspective.

C is for Casino

Lashes Casino Resort loomed in front of me. It was my place of work, but it was also my favorite place. It offered everything. Not only could you gamble on slot machines, but you could also play table games. But there were dozens of those casinos in the area. What made this one special was that it also offered all the perks of a BDSM club. Private rooms, public rooms, private demonstrations, public demonstrations, and all the kinky toys your heart could desire. All of it was at your fingertips, and all you had to do was step through the sliding glass doors.

Oh, and sign in. No one came in without security making sure you were legit. A few parts of the Casino were generally open to the public, but most of it was behind locked doors. We didn’t have exorbitant prices or anything, but we did need to make sure that everyone was safe.

B is for Backpack

I tried to catch my breath sitting on the train, but I couldn’t. I had swung my backpack onto the floor between my legs, and after a few minutes of wheezing, I opened it to dig out my inhaler. I didn’t have to use it often, but I was very glad I was carrying it with me now. I shook it, took off the cap, and inhaled a sweet puff. Inhalers used to taste foul, but now they weren’t too bad. It wasn’t pleasant, but it wasn’t distasteful either.

I slipped it back into my backpack and zipped the pocket shut, getting a look around me for the first time since I sat down on the train. My vision was spotty with fear, but I was finally able to comprehend the world around me.

“Are you all right?” an older woman asked when I glanced in her direction. Unlike many of the people on the train, her ears weren’t plugged with earbuds, and her eyes weren’t glued to a screen.

Welcome to our first Blogging from A to Z post! (Actually, we had a theme reveal a few weeks back.) We asked for ideas on what to bet, and decided that the winner gets a $50 shopping spree at a local book store courtesy of the loser! A is for Ahhh

I went out the door at 5:30 am like I would any other day. I worked the early shift on Thursday morning at the BDSM Resort Casino. I turned left and headed for the staircase that would take me down a back alley, but it came out only a block from the train. And from here, the train was a free ride and dropped me off right in front of the Resort. So why wouldn’t I take advantage? Otherwise, I had to walk about a mile. Ultimately, it took about the same amount of time regardless of whether I walked or grabbed the train, but it was early, and I was tired.

As I got near the stairs, I saw a car parked along the side of the road. That wasn’t terribly unusual. It’s a big city, and there were other cars parked along the same stretch. But what made it stand out is that the headlights were on. The inside of the car was dark, and that was very odd. If someone had pulled over to do something on their phone, the phone would at least partially illuminate the inside of the car. If they were looking for something, they would have turned on their interior lights. But no, the car was completely dark on the inside.

March 31 – What are you most grateful for, right now, in this moment?

Jayden: Safety. I feel safe and loved and happy, and that’s a feeling I haven’t felt for a while.

Richard: I just had a wonderful piece of home made bread as a snack. I’m very grateful for it. It’s really not a big deal, and I’m sure it won’t be my number one in five minutes, but sometimes it’s nice to just appreciate the little things in the moment.

Would you rather:

Have sex with someone who never showers or someone who never brushes their teeth?

Jayden: This is tough. Bad breath and BO are both awful. I guess someone who never brushes their teeth. We can just…not kiss?

Jayden: Oh damn. I couldn’t not speak, so I guess I’d go with always say what I’m thinking.

Richard: Always say what I was thinking. I’d probably get fired from my job, but I bet I could work the talk show circuit and write a book about it.

March 30 – What’s your most urgent priority for the rest of the year?

Jayden: Happiness. Finding a new balance for myself. There have been a lot of major changes in my life recently, and balance is going to be an important part of the rest of my year.

Richard: Getting into grad school. I need it for work, and I’m going for an MFA in Creative Writing, so I’m excited to improve my craft.

UPDATE: I got in! Still going to leave this up, since doing well in school is still going to be a major priority for me.

March 29 – What’s the most out-of-character choice you’ve ever made?

Jayden: Leaving my marriage of over a decade. Everyone who isn’t super close to me was very shocked. A few people who are close to me were shocked. But, in the end, it was a well thought out decision that was the best thing for myself, and I needed to make myself a priority. That right there was the thing that made it out-of-character. I always put everyone else before myself–their needs, their wants before my own. And for the first time in my life, I realized that I wasn’t happy and that I deserved to be happy.

Richard: Ever? I don’t know, that’s a lot of decisions. In the last year or so? The way Jayden’s and my relationship began was very unusual for me, and I usually wait more than three months before I move a new partner in.

March 28 – Do you have a morning ritual?

Jayden: I do! I mean, ritual in the sense of I do the same thing every morning anyway. It’s mostly a taking meds, shower, brushing teeth, type of routine. I don’t know that it goes beyond that.

Richard: Not really. I try to get up and going pretty quickly. With Covid and work from home, I usually just hop out of bed and wash up, then sign in for work. I do like to wait an hour or so from getting up before I have breakfast.

Richard: I think more annoyed than jealous? I generally try to avoid competing with people, outside of games, sports, etc. It’s usually not productive for anyone.
